Sygertech Announces New Conference Series for Optimizing R&D Financing with Tax Credits
MONTREAL, May 1, 2001 -
From optical fiber networks to pharmaceuticals to aerospace and software development, innovation is key to Greater
Montreal's attractiveness. According to Montreal International
(www.montreal-intl.com), corporate research in Greater Montreal is valued
at $2 billion (US$1.35 billion) per year with an annual growth rate of 10%. Thanks to the most advantageous tax
environment in North America for R & D, companies here are better able to explore new ideas and markets.
In order allow local firms as well as multinationals get the highest return on their R&D investment, Sygertech
has announced a new conference series that will help companies optimize their R&D financing with government tax credits.
"Not only are companies concerned about the efforts and expenses required to prepare their tax credit claim, they are also
uncertain about what R&D activities actually qualify for tax credits" said Claude Papion, head of Sygertech's Tax Credit
Group.
"It is the claiming company's responsibility to demonstrate its compliance with each applicable rule using solid evidence
as defined in the Income Tax Act and Regulations. This means that technology companies must know how government auditors
interpret the tax rules - from describing technological advancement, technological uncertainty and standard practice
activities to documenting, demonstrating and defending their claims before government auditors."
The first seminar in the series is being organized in association with the Order of Engineers of Quebec, Montreal Region
for May 29, 2001 and features Sygertech's Amalia Berrekia, Ph.D. and Sophie Janknecht, P.Eng, M.Sc.A. along with Michel
Lefebvre, LL.B., CGA of PricewaterhouseCoopers, s.r.l. Plans for future tax credit seminars are underway and will be
announced shortly.
